  • Rajkot: At this time, one week fast delivery is being undertaken as per the arrangements made by the government to ensure fast availability of rationing supplies. Supply Officer Puja Bawla said that a token system has been implemented to prevent congestion in the distribution carried out from April 1.
  • The card holder will be given a token and accordingly the goods will have to be returned. Government employees will also be placed at each shop for checking.
  • There is enough allotment on each shop and this time there is no need to rush for thumb impression as there is an off-line supply. Free cereals will be provided to ration card holders registered under the National Food Security Act.

Five people from Rajkot are from the NFSA. Free grains will be distributed under the Government Scheme to those enrolled under the scheme.

The government, on Thursday, decided free distribution of 5 kg food grains per person and one kg of pulses per household under PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana for next three months to 80 crore poor beneficiaries covered under National food security Act (NFSA) to ensure availability food to poor people during lockdown due to COVID-19.

Under NFSA, the government provides 5 kg of food grains per person at subsidised rates. It provides rice at Rs 2 a kg, rice at Rs 3 a kg coarse grains like bajra at Rs one a kg. ThHe beneficiaries will get the free ration over and above the their monthly quota of 5 kg food grains per month, which has been increased to 7 Kg a month for next three months by the cabinet on Wednesday.

“That means beneficiary would be entitled to get 12 kg of food grains per month for next three months. Five kg will be free under PM Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana while 7 kg will be available at subsidised rates over ration shops.

Announcing the scheme, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that government would not allow anybody, specially any poor family, to suffer on account of non-availability of foodgrains due to disruption in the next three months.

“The government will bear the entire expenditure of Rs 40,000 crores spent for distributing free food grain “ said a food ministry official.

Sitharaman said that in addition to food grains, every household will get one kg per family, of pulses like moong, toor, chana, urad would be provided for next three months.

“The pulses distribution will incur Rs 5,000 crore which will also be borne by the government,” the official said.
